Etymologie
Von chrysos (= Gold), bezogen auf die brillante, gold-grüne Farbe von Chrysobrycon hesperus Männchen; Brycon, eine Gattung von Salmlern und als Wortteil, der in Gattungsnamen von vielen Salmler-ähnlichen Fischen verwendet wird, abgeleitet von bryco (= beißen, knirschen oder gierig essen), ursprünglich eine Anspielung auf einen vollständig bezahnten Oberkiefer.
