Etymologie
Kombiniert aus erythro (= rot); gaster (= Bauch), bezogen auf die kräftige bauchseitige Färbung. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
USA und Kanada: Becken der Seen Erie und Michigan sowie des Mississippi von New York bis Minnesota, südlich des Einzuggebietes des Tennessee River in Albama und dem des White River und des Arkansas River in Arizona und Oklahoma. Isolierte Populationen auf der ehemaligen Mississippi Einbuchtung in Tennessee, Mississippi und Arkansas; Kansas River System in Kansas und oberer Arkansas River Einzug in Colorado und New Mexico, USA.
