Etymologie

Fumea (= rauchig), Anspielung nicht erklärt, möglicherweise bezogen auf dunkelbraune Farbe in Formalin mit schwarzen Rändern an Rücken-, After- und Schwanzflosse. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Pazifik: von der Präfektur Chiba, Zentral-Honshu (Ostküste), Japan zu den Ryukyu-Inseln und südwärts nach Taiwan. Der einzige Rekord südlich von Taiwan stammt von der Insel Tioman an der Ostküste (Südchinesisches Meer) der Halbinsel Malaysia.
