Romer, 1937
Im Jahr 1937 schlug Romer vor, dass Choanichthyes eine angemessene Bezeichnung für die Crossopterygii plus Dipnoi wäre. Sie baut auf Choanata von Säve-Söderbergh auf. Zwar folgten ihm mehrere Autoren, die Bezeichnung hat sich aber letztlich nicht durchgesetzt, sondern wurde durch Sarcopterygii ersetzt.
