Typusfundort: Guinea, Niger River, nördlich von Faranah, an der Straße N29, 10.28382°N, 10.76925°W (Karte).
Etymologie
Benannt wurde diese Art nach einer fiktiven Figur, Frodo Beutlin, die aus J. R. R. Tolkiens Reihe "Der Herr der Ringe" bekannt ist. Ungefähr 3.000 Meilen (4.800 km) trennen C. frodobagginsi von Chiloglanis micropogon, der Schwesterart, die im Kongo-Einzugsgebiet vorkommt. Die Figur und diese Art könnten sozusagen als kleine Reisende angesehen werden, was ihre Gemeinsamkeiten ausmacht.
Verbreitung
Guinea bis Mali: im oberen Flussbett des Niger und weiter flussabwärts.
