Etymologie
Cerato- (= Haken), vorgeschlagen als Untergattung von Scopelus (= Myctophum) für Ceratoscopelus maderensis, mit Bezug auf den knöchernen Vorsprung oder das Horn auf jeder Seite über dem Auge [Scopelus ist ein alter Name für einige großäugige Fische, von scopus (= schauen), historisch angewandt auf Laternenfische und andere pelagische oder Tiefseefische mit großen Augen].
