Etymologie
Bovinus (= Stier), Anspielung nicht ersichtlich, bezieht sich vielleicht auf den großen, markanten Kopf. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Mittelmeer; östlicher Atlantik: Spanien südlich bis Südafrika, einschließlich Madeira, Kanarische Inseln, Kapverdische Inseln sowie São Tomé und Principe; südwestlicher Indischer Ozean: Südafrika nördlich bis Mosambik.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 15.2.2021: CR Critically Endangered (vom Aussterben bedroht)
