Typusfundort: Brasilien, Mato Grosso, Sapezal, Rio Sauê-Uiná stromabwärts von einem Damm, in der Nähe des Highway BR-364, Rio Tapajós Becken, 13°32'22"S, 58°50'48"W (Karte).
Etymologie
Der Beiname sapezal wurde in Anspielung auf seine Typuslokalität, die Gemeinde von Sapezal gegeben. Es bedeuted, die mit Sapê (Imperata brasiliensis, Poaceae) bedeckte.
Verbreitung
Bryconops sapezal ist bekannt aus dem oberen Rio Juruena Einzug, Rio Tapajós Becken, Mato Grosso, Brasilien.
