Etymologie
–Ops (= Aussehen), was anscheinend Kners Überzeugung widerspiegelt, dass die Gattung „mit den hierher verwandten Arten der Gattung Brycon klassifiziert werden könnte“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
