Etymologie

Benannt zu Ehren von James Carson Brevoort (1818-1887), „dem bekannten Ichthyologen von New York“ (Brevoort war Geschäftsmann und Philanthrop, der verschiedene literarische und wissenschaftliche Gesellschaften und Institutionen unterstützte und selbst ein guter Amateur-Naturforscher war; seine zoologische Bibliothek galt damals als die beste des Landes).
