Etymologie
Der spezifische Name ist ein Patronym zu Ehren von John P. Sullivan, für seine Beiträge zur Biologie der Gymnotiformes.
Verbreitung
Bolivien, Brasilien, Kolumbien, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru und Venezuela. Weitverbreitet durch das Amazonasbecken einschließlich mehrerer Fundorte im oberen, zentralen und unteren Amazonas, in den Flüssen Rio Negros, Purus, im unteren und oberen Madeira und Tapajós Einzug. Bekannt von einigen Küstenabflüssen im Bundesstaat Pará, nahe der Mündung des Rio Tocantins. Bekannt auch von Teilen des Orinoco-Beckens und vom Rio Essequibo.
