Etymologie
Erythros (= rot); -inus (= adjektivisches Suffix), bezieht sich vermutlich auf die roten Flecken und/oder Flossen, die bei einigen Exemplaren zu sehen sind. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Argentinien, Brasilien, Ecuador, Kolumbien, Paraguay, Bolivien, Französisch-Guayana, Guyana, Peru, Surinam, Trinidad und Tobago und Venezuela.
