Etymologie
Von retro- (= dahinter); tinctus (= gefärbt), bezogen auf schwarzen Schwanzansatz auf ansonsten blass-braunem, etwas silbrigem Körper.
Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Japan, Taiwan und die Philippinen.

Status: Stand 7.08.2018: DD Data Deficient (ungenügende Datengrundlage)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Es ist nicht bekannt, ob Bathycongrus retrotinctus von größeren Bedrohungsprozessen betroffen ist. Das Vorhandensein von Exemplaren auf einem Fischmarkt in Tokio deutet darauf hin, dass B. retrotinctus für den menschlichen Verzehr oder als Beifang gefangen werden kann. Der Verweis auf die Tokioter Fischmarktexemplare stammt jedoch aus dem Jahr 1901, so dass nicht bekannt ist, ob diese Art heute in der Fischerei verwendet wird.
