Typusfundort: Shankarpur Fischereihafen (20°10.770'N, 81°26.047'E [sic!] aber wohl eher: 21°38'30.0"N, 87°34'13.4"E (Karte)), West Bengalen, Indien.
Etymologie
In Anbetracht der großen Ähnlichkeit der äußeren Morphologie zu Gymnothorax tile (Hamilton, 1822), wurde die Art Gymnothorax pseudotile genannt.
Verbreitung
Bisher ist die Art nur aus West Bengalen, an der nordöstlichen Küste von Indien, aus der Bucht von Bengalen, bekannt.
