Typusfundort: 60 Meilen südlich von Cocos Island, Ostpazifik, 4°50'N, 87°00'W (Karte), Tiefe 765 Faden.
Etymologie
Spinosissima (= lateinisch für sehr stachelig), bezieht sich auf die Rücken- und Bauchflächen, die "dicht und gleichmäßig mit kleinen, gebogenen Stacheln" bedeckt sind und den Schwanz, der "überall mit kleinen Stacheln bedeckt ist, und sogar auf der Oberfläche der Rückenflossen". Verbreitung
Nordpazifik und östlicher Pazifik: Ochotskisches Meer, Beringmeer, Oregon (USA) südlich bis Ecuador, einschließlich Malpelo-Insel (Kolumbien) und Galápagos-Rücken.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 1.6.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Der Pazifische Weiße Rochen ist nur aus einigen verstreuten Aufzeichnungen über sein Verbreitungsgebiet bekannt. Berichten zufolge kommt er in fast 3.000 m Tiefe vor, was außerhalb des Tiefenbereichs der meisten Schleppnetzeinsätze liegt. Videoaufnahmen dieser Art aus einer Tiefe von 1.875 m vor Zentralkalifornien deuten darauf hin, dass sie auf felsigem Untergrund lebt, was ebenfalls ausschließt, dass sie mit Schleppnetzen gefangen werden kann.
