Etymologie

Kombiniert aus bathys (= tief), bezogen auf den bathypelagischen Lebensraum, lychnos (= Lampe) und ops (= Auge), bezieht sich auf das Photophor und zwei andere Flecken von „leuchtendem Gewebe“, die aus einem schwarzen Sack auf den Augen herausragen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
