Typusfundort: Fluss Simav bei Bursa, Kleinasien.
Etymologie
Oligo- (= wenig); lepis (= Schuppe), bezieht sich vermutlich auf die geringere Anzahl von Schuppen im Vergleich zu Barbus tauricus polylepis, der in derselben Veröffentlichung beschrieben wird. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Türkei: Flüsse, die zum Südufer des Marmarameeres fließen: Nilüfer, Koca (= Kocasu; mündet in den Ulubat-See), Kocachay (mündet in den Manyas-See, ein Nebenfluss des Koca oder Susurluk), Hanchay (ein Nebenfluss des Gönen) und der Narlıca-Bach im Kreis İznik (mündet in den Iznik-See).

Status: Stand 16.2.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es gibt viele Bedrohungen in diesem Gebiet, aber keine scheint stark genug zu sein, um diese Art wirklich zu gefährden.
