Etymologie
Mutator (= Wechsler), Anspielung nicht erklärt; 1917 schrieb Eigenmann, dass Astyanax mutator und Hyphessobrycon proteus „Brücken zwischen“ ihren jeweiligen Gattungen schlagen, so dass der Name vielleicht auf die erstere Art anspielt, die sich in die letztere verwandelt.
