Etymologie
Von mega-, (= groß); ops (= Auge), vermutlich auf größeres Auge im Vergleich zum verwandten Moenkhausia grandisquamis. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Südamerika: Amazonasbecken und Küstenflüsse in Französisch-Guayana.
