Etymologie
Kombination aus gymnos (= ohne oder nackte); genys (= Wange oder Kinn), bezieht sich vermutlich auf den „nackten Bereich“ am zweiten suborbitalen Knochen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Brasilien und(?) Argentinien: Mittleres und unteres Iguaçu-Einzugsgebiet, Paraná und Santa Catarina.
