Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Traills Freund Charles Stewart Parker (1800-1868), britischer Kaufmann, der den Autor mit einer Zeichnung des Welses und seiner Haut "beglückte". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Küstenflüsse von Guyana bis Nordbrasilien, die in den Atlantik entwässern: Brasilien, Französisch-Guayana, Guyana, Surinam und Venezuela.

Status: Stand 1.09.2023:VU Vulnerable (gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art wird in ihrem gesamten Verbreitungsgebiet befischt. Wie andere Ariiden hat auch S. parkeri eine geringe Fruchtbarkeit und betreibt Elternpflege (Maulbrut) und ist daher möglicherweise besonders anfällig für starken Fischereidruck. Er bewohnt Mündungsgebiete, in denen eine potenzielle Bedrohung durch Verschmutzung und Lebensraumverschlechterung besteht. Es liegen jedoch keine Daten vor, die bestätigen, ob sie davon betroffen ist.
