Etymologie
Von major (Die Form im grammatikalischen Neutrum, die mit Ariosoma übereinstimmt, ist majus) (= größer), vermutlich auf seine Größe bezogen, die größer ist als bei Ariosoma shiroconger, beide beschrieben als Unterarten in derselben Zeitung. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
