Etymologie
Macro- (= groß); cephalus (= Kopf), bezieht sich auf den großen und stumpfen Kopf, der 4,0-4,5 mal so lang wie die Schnauze ist. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Östlicher Indischer Ozean, westlicher Pazifik: Indoensia östlich bis Nord-Borneo, nördlich bis Südchina und Taiwan.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 6.5.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Sie wird in einer Vielzahl von Fischereien auf gemischte Arten gefangen, aber es ist unklar, ob sich dies negativ auf die Population auswirkt.
