Etymologie

Aphodos (= Exkrement); dere (= Hals oder Kehle), bezogen auf die vordere Position des Anus, direkt unter dem Kopf vor den Beckenflossen [Anmerkung: der volkstümliche Name "Piratenbarsch" wurde von dem Naturforscher Charles C. Abbott (ca. 1870) geprägt, nachdem er beobachtet hatte, dass in Gefangenschaft gehaltene Exemplare nur andere Fische fraßen]. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
