Etymologie
Vom lateinischen pinguis (= plump), bezogen auf die Kombination des stumpfen Fortsatzes und des hinteren Randes, was zu einem relativ plumpen Erscheinungsbild für einen Clupeiden-Otolithen führt.
Verbreitung
Mangaorapan: Neuseeland, Pentland Hills.
