Etymologie
Der Gattungsname stammt vom lateinischen Substantiv scala (= Schuppe) und dem lateinischen Adjektiv curva (= gebogen); in Anspielung auf die angehobene, nach vorne gerichtete erste dorsale Kammschuppe, die über dem Schädeldach vorragt, was charakteristisch für diese Gattung ist. Ergänzt durch das griechische Substantiv ichthos (= Fisch).
