Holotypus: NHMUK PV P 3791; Schädel und Brustgürtel in Seitenansicht konserviert.
Typusfundort und -schicht: Großbritannien: Lyme Regis, Dorset, Unterer Lias. Basierend auf lithologischen Vergleichen, höchstwahrscheinlich der Black Ven, Mitglied der Charmouth Mudstone Formation.

Etymologie

Benannt zu Ehren von Mary Anning, eine wichtige Fossilien Sammlerin aus Lyme Regis.
