Etymologie
Cognatus (= verwandt), bezieht sich vermutlich darauf wie diese Art Uranoscopus scaber „sehr ähnlich“ sieht und/oder „sehr nah“ an Uranoscopus marmoratus herankommt. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Östlicher Indischer Ozean, westlicher Pazifik: Ostküste Indiens östlich bis Taiwan, südlich bis Shark Bay (Westaustralien) und Golf von Carpentaria (Queensland, Australien).
