Typusfundort: Westlicher Pazifik, Südchinesisches Meer, Süd-Zentralvietnam, Provinz Khanh Hoa, Nha Trang, nördlich von Hon Tre, 12°13′21"N, 109°18′30"E (Karte).
Etymologie
Der Name bezieht sich auf die variable Anzahl von 7 oder 8 Rückenflossenstacheln bei dieser Art, was im Gegensatz zu den meisten anderen Ziegenfischarten und allen anderen indopazifischen Arten steht, die entweder 7 oder 8 Rückenflossenstacheln haben.
Verbreitung
West-Pazifik, von der Grenze zum Ostindischen Ozean in Süd-Indonesien bis nach Singapur, Golf von Thailand, Vietnam, Zentral-Philippinen, Süd-China, Taiwan und Süd-Japan; 6–24 m Tiefe, sandige oder schlammige Böden.
