Etymologie
Von den Tupí-Wörtern pira (= Fisch) und tymbara (= sich selbst eingraben), was auf seine „eigenartige Angewohnheit“ verweist, sich im Substrat zu verstecken. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
