Etymologie
Punctatus (= gefleckt), mit Bezug auf die goldgelben Flecken auf Kopf, Körper und Schwanzflosse. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westpazifik: Rand des östlichen Sektors des Indischen Ozeans, Cocos-Inseln (Keeling), Australien, Indonesien, Singapur, Golf von Thailand, Südchinesisches Meer, Philippinen, Taiwan, Ryukyu-Inseln, Ogasawara-Inseln, Marianen, Palau (Belau), Karolinen, Kapingamarangi-Inseln, Nauru und Niue. In der Andamanensee und in weiter westlich gelegenen Regionen wird die Art durch ihre Schwesterart, Siganus stellatus, ersetzt.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 6.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Diese Art wird in Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets gezielt nachgestellt, doch scheint dies derzeit keine große Bedrohung darzustellen.
