Etymologie
Gigas (= riesig), bezieht sich auf die relativ große Größe der erwachsenen Tiere (bis zu 222 mm SL). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Östlicher Pazifik: Panama bis Nordchile.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 9.3.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. In einigen Gebieten wird diese Art manchmal zur Zubereitung einer Suppe namens "Borracho" verwendet, die einen leichten Rausch und eine kurzzeitige Müdigkeit hervorruft.
