Etymologie
Von melanos (= schwarz); oura (= Schwanz), bezogen auf die schwarzen Spitzen der Schwanzflosse. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-West Pazifik: Ostafrika, Seychellen, Madagaskar und westliche Maskarenen, östlich bis zu den nördlichen Gilbert Inseln (Kiribati), Samoa und Tonga, im Norden nach Südjapan, im Süden bis zum Dampier Archipel (Westaustralien), Queensland (Australien) bis 23°03'S und Neukaledonien.
