Etymologie
Benannt nach der Typuslokalität: Jeddah.
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer, Indischer Ozean: Ost- und Südafrika bis Madagaskar und Réunion (westliche Maskarenen); Persischer Golf.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 26.12.2018:VU Vulnerable (gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Der eingeschränkte Lebensraum an der Küste, die begrenzten Merkmale der Lebensgeschichte, die Anfälligkeit für das Einfangen mit verschiedenen Fanggeräten und die ständig wachsende Nachfrage machen die Rhynchobatiden an der Küste zu den am meisten gefährdeten Knorpelfischen.
