Etymologie
Aus dem Griechischen psammos, Sand, und Cambeva, ein beliebter Name für Trichomycteriden in Südost- und Südbrasilien und eine nominelle Trichomycteriden-Gattung, eine Anspielung auf die psammophilen Gewohnheiten der Typusart und den anderen zu dieser Gattung gehörenden Arten.
