Etymologie
Benannt nach Adamastor, einer der Giganten der griechischen Mythologie, der gegen Zeus und Thetis war und deshalb auf die Erde geschickt wurde und als wütender Sturm über das Kap der Stürme fungierte. Das Epitheton adamastor ist eine Anpassung des griechischen "Adamastos", d.h. ungezähmt.
Verbreitung
Potamotrygon adamastor ist derzeit nur aus dem Rio Urariquera bekannt, ein großer rechter Nebenfluss des Rio Branco, Amazonas-Becken, Bundesstaat Roraima, Brasilien.
