Typen

Holotypus: PNM 15193 (ex USNM 438011).
Paratypen: (7) MNHN 2002–2971 (1); USNM 438013 (1), 437757 (1), 437759 (1), 437761 (1), 437766 (1), 437775 (1). Typusfundort: Philippines, Iloilo Prov., Panay Island, found in Iloilo City "super" fish market, exact locality and depth of capture unknown (vendor stated that he received the shipment containing these fresh fish from Palawan).

Etymologie

Das Art-Epitheton ist eine Kombination des griechischen kontos (= kurz) und odon (= Zahn), in Bezug auf die Stift-ähnlichen symphysealen Kiefer-Zähne.
