Kombiniert aus ophthalmus (= Auge), bezieht sich auf das großes Auge von Ophthalmotilapia boops, und der Lateinisierung von !api, !Kung-Wort für Fisch ("!" wird als Klick ausgesprochen und als "ti" transkribiert). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
