Verbreitung
Westlicher Zentralatlantik: Georgien bis Nordost-Florida und der gesamte nördliche Golf von Mexiko, bis Veracruz, im Südwesten des Golfs von Mexiko.

Status: Stand 17.8.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Für Ophidion josephi sind keine größeren Bedrohungen bekannt, aber sie kann als Beifang in der Schleppnetzfischerei vorkommen.
