Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Naturforschers Charles Darwin (1809-1882), anlässlich des 100. Jahrestages der Veröffentlichung seines Werks Über die Entstehung der Arten und "in Anbetracht des Umstands, dass Darwins wichtigste Beobachtungen über den Endemismus von Inseln auf den Galapagos-Inseln gemacht wurden", zugleich die Typuslokalität. Südostpazifik: Galapagos-Inseln südlich bis Peru.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 29.9.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Es sind keine größeren Bedrohungen für diese Art bekannt. Obwohl sie auf die Galapagos-Inseln beschränkt ist, ist es unwahrscheinlich, dass sie durch ozeanographische Umweltveränderungen aufgrund von Klimawandelereignissen negativ beeinflusst wird, da sie in tiefen Gewässern lebt.
