Typusfundort: Silver Creek, 1 Meile oberhalb der Einmündung in den Etowah River, in der Nähe von Rome, Floyd County, Georgia, U.S.A.
Etymologie
Lepto- (= schlank); acanthus (= Stachel), bezieht sich auf "kleine und schlanke Rücken- und Brustflossenstacheln, die keine inneren Zähne aufweisen". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
USA: Wasserläufe zum Atlantik und an der Golfküste vom Edisto River in South Carolina, bis zum Amite-Comite River in Louisiana; im Süden der Halbinsel Florida bis zum St. John's River.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 3.03.2023:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Möglicherweise gibt es lokale Bedrohungen, aber für das gesamte Verbreitungsgebiet sind keine größeren Bedrohungen bekannt.
