Paratypen: (5) CSIRO H 6130-01, 6136-01, 6136-04, H 7099-09, H 7848-01.
Typusfundort: Muara Kintap, South Kalimantan, Indonesien, 3°54.26′S, 115°15.53′E (Karte).
Etymologie
Das Epithet grenzt die südostasiatische Verbreitung dieses Mitglieds des Blauflecken-Maskenrochen-Komplexes der Gattung Neotrygon ab.
Verbreitung
Die Typuslokalität von N. orientale ist die östliche Java Sea vor der südöstlichen Spitze von Borneo. Das Verbreitungsgebiet umfasst das Südchinesische Meer, das Java-Meer, das Sulu-Meer, das Sulawesi-Meer, die Philippinen und die Insel Sulawesi. Auch gesammelt von Tanjung Luar, aber die genaue geographische Herkunft ist unbekannt.
