Etymologie
Lavandula, nach der Gattung der blühenden Pflanzen, zu denen auch das Zierkraut Lavendel gehört, in Anlehnung an seine schöne Färbung im Leben.
Verbreitung
Westlicher und zentraler Pazifik (weit verbreitet): Verbreitung folgt den nordwestlichen Konturen der Pazifischen Platte, von der Insel Yakushima im Süden Japans über die Ryukyu- und Ogasawara-Inseln und südlich bis nach Taiwan und die nördlichen Philippinen, und erstreckt sich nach Osten über Mikronesien, einschließlich der Karolinen, Marshall- und Marianen-Inseln. In Melanesien wurde die Art von den Fidschi-Inseln, Vanuatu und Neukaledonien gemeldet. Sie wurde auch aus Samoa, Amerikanisch-Samoa, Tonga, dem Korallenmeer und dem Hicks Riff am Great Barrier Reef gemeldet. Hält sich in seewärtigen Sandkanälen und Geröllfeldern in der Nähe von Korallenriffen in Tiefen zwischen 25 und 100 m auf.
