Bonací ist der kubanische Namen für diesen Zackenbarsch.
Verbreitung
Westlicher Atlantik: Bermuda und Massachusetts (U.S.A.) südlich bis Brasilien, einschließlich vorgelagerter Inseln.

Status: Stand 14.05.2022:NT Near Threatened (potenziell gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die Überfischung ist eine große Bedrohung für diese Art. Sie ist besonders anfällig für Überfischung, da die Laich- und Futterplätze stark befischt werden. Die küstennahen Aufwuchshabitate sind empfindlich gegenüber anthropogenen Einflüssen auf die Küstenökosysteme, wie z. B. dem Eintrag von Schadstoffen.
