Typusfundort: Dong-gang [auch Tung-kang geschrieben], südwestliches Taiwan).
Etymologie
Von brevis (= kurz); rostris (= Schnauze), bezieht sich auf "stumpfe, dicke und kurze" Schnauze.
Verbreitung
Häufig in flacheren Gewässern als Macrocephenchelys brachialis. Die Typuslokalität ist Dong-gang in Südwest-Taiwan; Sie wird auch in Da-xi und Nanfangao in Nordost-Taiwan gesammelt. Die Verbreitung über Taiwan ist ungewiss. Sie wurde von den Philippinen, Australien und Neukaledonien berichtet (Karmovskaya, 2004), aber es ist nicht klar, ob diese alle zur selben Spezies gehören. Weitere Studien sind erforderlich, um zu bestimmen, wie viele Arten vorhanden sind und wie sie verbreitet sind.
