Etymologie
Obsoletus (= abgenutzt oder verfallen), vermutlich in Bezug auf einen schwachen gelb-violetten Streifen am Körper (in zeitgenössischen Berichten als orange-gelb beschrieben). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer, Indo-West-Pazifik: Ostafrika östlich bis zum Wake Atoll, Marshall-Inseln und Tuamotu-Archipel, nördlich bis zu den Ryukyu-Inseln, südlich bis Westaustralien, Neukaledonien und Tonga.
