Etymologie
Spilos (= Zeichen oder Fleck); ptera (= beflosst), bezieht sich auf die weißen Flecken auf der Innenseite der Brustflosse. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Rotes Meer, Ostafrika und Madagaskar, östlich bis zu den Philippinen, südlich bis Australien (Queensland, Australien).
