Etymologie
Von kolpotos (= gefaltet), bezogen auf ein kaudales Organ, das von hypertrophierten Hautfalten entlang der Schwanzflossenstrahlen gebildet wird; cheirodon, bezieht sich auf die Platzierung in der Unterfamilie Cheirodontinae.
