Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Herman A. Kihn (auch bekannt als P. Herman Kihn-Pineda, Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala), „der ein Leben lang damit verbracht hat, die Fische Guatemalas (wo diese Gattung endemisch ist) zu studieren, und damit Beiträge „von unschätzbarem Wert“ zum Verständnis ihrer Vielfalt und Verbreitung lieferte; ichthys (= Fisch).
