Etymologie
Der Gattungsname leitet sich vom Land Iran ab, das die Heimat der Arten dieser Gattung ist; cichla, selbst Gattungsname von Cichliden (Familie Cichlidae) und Anhängsel bei verschiedenen Cichliden-Gattungen.
